Drop Off Unneeded Prescription Drugs At Food Lion Stores On May 30
Prescription drug abuse is a growing trend nationally, including in Raleigh. Seventy (70) percent of persons ages 12 and older who abuse prescription pills get the drugs from the homes of unsuspecting relatives and friends.
To help prevent prescription drug abuse, citizens can take unneeded or expired prescription drugs to any of six local Food Lion stores participating in the "Prescription Pill Drop-off" event on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the City of Raleigh Substance Abuse Advisory Commission, the City's Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The purpose of the "Prescription Pill Drop-off" event is to raise public awareness about prescription drug abuse and to provide a safe place to collect unneeded or expired medication so the drugs can be diverted away from potential abuse.
Representatives from the three sponsoring agencies will be collecting unneeded=2 0prescription drugs in the parking lots of Food Lion stores located at:
· 4510 Capital Blvd;
· 1100 N. Raleigh Blvd.;
· 1121 Falls River Ave.;
· 2420 Wycliff Road;
· 4827 Grove Barton Road;
· 1601 Cross Link Road.
The DEA and the Raleigh Police Department will ensure the security of the drugs being collected and make sure they are properly disposed. Each of the Food Lion drop-off locations will have educational literature on prescription drug abuse. Citizens will be able to drop off their unneeded or expired prescription drugs anonymously with no questions asked.
