Report from the June NC WELCA Annual Gathering
I am excited to report back to all of you from the June NC WELCA Annual Gathering. There is so much going on in our state, Synodical National Women’s Organization, and in our NC Synod. I hope you are checking on-line posts from our NC WELCA President and our Synod Bishop, Tim Smith. Site addresses are www.ncwelca.org, www.nclutheran.org, www.womenoftheelca.org.
Program – Bible Study – The Book of Micah
We will study the book of Micah on Saturday. Micah is a short book but mighty book. This will be a continuation of the study we began at the Annual Conference. If you haven’t read this book in a while, you may want to do a refresher read prior to Saturday.
Save the Date – Fall Gathering – October 26
We have planning to do for the coming year and especially for the Fall Gathering which will be held on October 26.
As we planned at our last meeting, I requested a check for $200 from our WELCA account and purchased LWR school supplies to stuff 50 more backpacks. We will fill and pack what we can complete now.
Thanks – Lin Gunnet
Food Bank Tour & Lunch
Monday, July 16, 11am to 2:30pm
Stop Summer Hunger 2018, is a goal of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. In an effort to further fulfill our WELCA mission statement, members wanted to learn more about this valuable resource in our own Raleigh backyard. Grace member Barbara Oates, a 2012 Hunt-Morgridge Award recipient for her service to the NC Food Bank, has arranged for all Grace members to tour the new state of the art food bank facility in Raleigh.
The two-hour tour will begin at 11am. Following the tour we’ll enjoy lunch at RSVP for the tour, lunch and let us know if you need a ride.
All are welcome! Learn more about resources in our community that are providing for a better quality of life for our neighbors. You never know what light bulbs God will cause to shine next. He used Barbara Oates all those years ago when she saw a need in our community to feed all our neighbors who were hungry and didn’t have the resources to provide for themselves and their families.
Come join us, bring a friend, colleague, or neighbor!
