Pastor and Staff
Open Positions at Grace
Pastor David Sloop will serve as our Interim Pastor beginning Tuesday, April 4. He will serve three-quarter time, Sundays thru Wednesday, be available on-call the rest of the week, and off approximately one Sunday per month.
Pastor David grew up in Asheville, NC where he was nurtured in the faith through St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He is a 1973 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill double majoring in American Studies and Religion. Additionally Pastor David went on to receive a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a Masters of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. Ordained in the former Lutheran Church in America in 1978, he has served only two congregations: Associate Pastor, Macedonia Lutheran in Burlington for 4 years and at Good Shepherd Lutheran, here in Raleigh, for 31 years. Since retiring in 2013, Pastor David has devoted his time to family, home and hobby, travel, church and other volunteer commitments.
Pastor David and Sally have been married almost 41 years and are members of Abiding Savior Lutheran, Durham. They have raised 5 children and have 7 grandchildren (6 boys and an 11 month old granddaughter named Charlotte; all 7 now live in NC.)
“I’m impressed with Grace’s inclusive worship experience wherein a rich variety of liturgical styles are experienced by all; it’s cohesive staff who together bring a multitude of talents to help lead the congregation; and the diversity of people whose servant hearts are so evident.”
